Burwood-Road outside Chinatown

The Burwood Main Street Transformation Project reimagines and transforms Burwood's main street into a vibrant food and culture destination. The project delivers improvements to the suburb's night-time economy while also improving public access and pedestrian movement around the busy main streets. The project features colourful wall murals, new public spaces to pause, linger and eat, and lighting projections showcasing heritage landmarks.

These infrastructure changes will help promote other modes of active transport and promote multiple functions for roadways - including shopping, resting and outdoor dining. Footpath widening will cater for the growing population and busy streets nearby to Westfield and Burwood Station.

Project features:

  • Footpath widening, parklets and in-built dining and seating areas to create outdoor dining and breakout spaces
  • Multipurpose poles with suspended catenary lighting and flags
  • Turf and garden areas and street tree planting
  • Light projections and public art
  • Smart parking sensors
  • A digital community information display screen
