Meryla Street testing clinic to close

Council is advising the community that the Meryla Street COVID Testing Clinic will cease operations on Sunday 13 March.

The decision to close the facility was made due to the easing of restrictions in NSW and the need for additional parking space within the LGA as trade continues to resume within the area.

Meryla Street will return to its function as a public carpark from Tuesday 15 March.

Opening in July last year the Meryla Street Testing Clinic was designed to assist residents in accessing PCR tests during the height of the pandemic.

More than 60,000 tests have been processed in the ensuring 8 months providing a valuable service to the community.

Mayor John Faker thanked the Histopath staff for their outstanding efforts especially during the strict lockdown requirements of 2021.

“I would like to acknowledge the staff who worked long days over summer in full personal protective equipment to ensure that the tests were processed as quickly as possible.

“The pandemic has been challenging for the community and the early detection of COVID-19 symptoms helped reinforce the importance of self-isolation which ultimately played a key role in containing the spread of the virus throughout our area,” Cr Faker concluded.

Council’s Wynne Avenue Testing site will continue to operate for drive through PCR testing and residents are also urged to take Rapid Antigen Tests should they develop COVID-19 symptoms.

The nearest walk-in clinic for residents requiring a PCR test in the Burwood Town Centre is the 4Cyte Pathology Walk-in Clinic at 188-190 Burwood Road. Further clinic locations can be found using the NSW Health clinic finder.
