Link bridge Milestone For Community Hub Plan

Burwood Council has achieved a symbolic milestone in its grand plan to upgrade Burwood Library and provide new community spaces – a bridge installed to link people with the facilities.
The link bridge connects the library and community hub at 2 Conder St with what will be new multipurpose spaces at 8 Conder St for a range of community activities, including art exhibits and music practice.
A crane operator and workers lifted the link bridge into place above Hornsey St.
The upgrade of the library, which will provide more space and better digital technology, and the new community spaces are part of an almost $10 million Council investment.
The community was recently asked for input into how a modern library and new community spaces might look.
The feedback has guided design.
Mayor John Faker said the bridge installation was an exciting sign of the community complex to come.
“I can’t wait to see people walking across the bridge between the library and our new community spaces,” he said.
“The community spaces will be flexible with maker spaces, 3D printing, an indoor garden for author talks or music events, and other uses.”
Council staff will share the 8 Conder St premises and move offices next year.
