Due to COVID-19, Burwood Council has decided to cancel its annual Lunar New Year event in Burwood Park in February, and will instead hold a Lion Dance parade in the Burwood Town Centre on Saturday 13 February from 11am-1pm starting and finishing in Burwood Park.
Council will also hold a limited seated COVID-safe Movies in the Park event on Australia Day.
“While it is extremely disappointing we had to cancel our annual Lunar New Year celebrations in Burwood Park, it is important that we respond to the current health advice to help keep our community safe,” Mayor Faker said.
“Instead, to welcome in the Year of the Ox, a Lion Dance parade will be held in the Burwood Town Centre.”
Mr Faker said Council will hold a Movies in the Park screening on Australia Day – albeit in a new COVID-safe format with limited booked seating which will be held in a new location at Wangal Park.
“We are encouraging residents to book their free tickets online and to bring a picnic along to enjoy a screening of two uniquely Australian films – Storm Boy and Rams,” he said.
“As there is no on-site parking residents are being encouraged to walk or ride to the event or take public transport. The park is only a 15 minute walk from Burwood or Croydon Stations.”
