New Council gets down to business

Burwood’s newest Council has been officially sworn in before quickly getting down to the business of governing at Tuesday’s first Ordinary Council Meeting of the year.
There was a mixture of experience and enthusiasm as the seven councillors elected last December pledged to serve the Burwood community with additional excitement generated by the fact the occasion marked the return face-to-face meetings after almost a year.
Returning Councillors John Faker (Mayor), Heather Crichton and George Mannah were joined by their new colleagues Pascale Esber, Ned Cutcher, David Hull and Hugo Robinson.
Following the swearing in ceremony and other procedural formalities Cr George Mannah was elected into the position of Deputy-Mayor.
Mayor John Faker said it was a successful meeting and is looking forward to delivering for the community during this term of Council. “I would like extend my congratulations to my fellow Councillor George Mannah. His endorsement as Deputy Mayor is well deserved due to his strong leadership skills and commitment to our community. I look forward to working closely with him in our roles,” Cr Faker said.
“In terms of setting an agenda for this term of Council we’re actually quite fortunate as having a shorter period before the next election means we can really focus on the projects that will make a difference.
“I would like to thank the returning councillors for their commitment to our community. Elections can be gruelling and it’s great that they are back! I’m delighted to welcome the new blood as well. I am sure there will be much spirited debate and new ideas with the ultimate aim to produce better outcomes for our community,” he said.
