Composting Pilot Trial

Three apartment buildings in the local area have been selected to take part in a Composting Pilot Trial being conducted by Burwood Council.

“As it’s hard for many people to have worm farms or composting systems in their apartment buildings we are keen to see if people would use a shared composting system to help reduce waste,” The Mayor of Burwood John Faker said.

“Waste audits undertaken in 2019 found that approximately one third of the average household general waste bin is made up of food waste.

“By collecting and composting food and garden waste, we can reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill and return valuable nutrients back to the earth.

“The Apartment Building Composting Trial is another measure Council is taking to support residents to reduce their waste.

“We are hoping it will also help to build a strong sense of community that supports a great outcome for our local environment.”

Council will work with the selected apartment buildings to inform residents about the trial and to build knowledge and awareness of the project with the rollout of compost bins expected to take place in February 2021.

 The apartment buildings selected for the Composting Pilot Trial are:

  • 3 Clarence Street Burwood
  • 1-5 Greenhills Street Croydon
  • 294 Liverpool Road Enfield
