Burwood Beats & Eats Festival set for launch

Hot on the heels of a highly successful Lantern Festival last month, Burwood Road will again be transformed as the Beats & Eats Festival celebrates our unique foodie culture this weekend.

Residents are advised that Burwood Road will be closed from Park Avenue to Belmore Street with Railway Parade remaining operational from 3pm Saturday 23 April until midnight Sunday 24 April with residents advised to use alternate routes when transiting through the area.

The event is the second in a series of the NSW Government’s Festival of Place Open Streets Program and is a way of celebrating our sense of place and reconnecting the community with the town centre. 

Although its normally reserved for the exclusive use of cars for the duration of the festival the road will be transformed into an urban park focused on food and music - filled with tables, chairs, decorations, amusement rides, activities, stalls and roaming performers.

One of the highlights of the event will be Sunday evening when the Soul Movers take to the stage featuring the exhilarating guitar work of one of Australia’s best known guitarists Murray Cook formerly of The Wiggles who is complimented perfectly by the exhilarating vocal range of Lizzie Mack

Mayor John Faker is looking towards what promises to be a celebratory weekend.

“We had an excellent response to the Lantern Festival with more than 3000 visitors braving the conditions. Our fingers and toes are crossed for better weather and we’re confident of running a memorable event,” said Cr Faker.

“Burwood’s reputation for unique and flavoursome cuisine from around the globe draws thousands of visitors from across Sydney. This weekend they can fill their stomachs while enjoying music and activities fun for the whole family. What can be better than that?,” he concluded.
