Following the highly successful Lantern Festival and Beats & Eats extravaganza the third and final street activation gets underway this weekend with a focus on family fun.
The community are advised that Burwood Road will be closed from Park Avenue to Belmore Street with Railway Parade remaining operational from 3pm Saturday 21 May until midnight Sunday 22 May. Alternate routes when transiting through the area is encouraged.
The event is the third in the series of the NSW Government’s Festival of Place Open Streets Program and is a way of celebrating our sense of place and reconnecting the community with the town centre.
Highlights on Saturday include roaming performers such as Pop Art - a homage to Roy Lichtenstein, arts and craft and a DJ to pump up the crowd.
On Sunday enjoy the atmosphere of the Circus Playground, and live music from lunchtime. This interactive circus workshop environment with funky entrance way, beautiful banners, colourful flags and silk bunting. Try your hand at these unique skills!
Also making an appearance will be a range of animal cuteness with the popular Golden Ridge Animal Farm Petting Zoo checking in from 11:00am-5:00pm.
Mayor John Faker is looking towards what promises to be a weekend of celebration.
“I was thrilled to see thousands of community members attend the last two activations on Burwood Road, with the final installation this weekend shaping up to be the best yet” said Cr Faker.
“Exercise your right to vote in the morning and then come down and celebrate on Burwood Road with friends, family and the community in the afternoon from 6pm. Grab a bite to eat and enjoy the festive atmosphere, he said.
