An apprenticeship is for individuals who have finished school or with limited work experience. Apprentices are learning a skilled trade and combine on-the-job training with an employer and off-the-job training through TAFE.

The duration of an apprenticeship is 3 - 4 years until the completion of the trade.

What is a Traineeship?

What is a Cadetship?

When did you start your traineeship?

February 2023

What made you apply for the IT Support Traineeship with Burwood Council?

I was interested in a career in IT, and thought it would be valuable to gain experience in local government.

What have you learnt during the traineeship and/or what opportunities has it given you?

I have learnt how to solve many technical issues and how an IT Service Desk/Helpdesk works. I've learnt many different processes and procedures that are used in local government and been introduced to asset management with IT devices.

The traineeship has given me an opportunity to 'kick-start' a career in IT as well as gain experience in local government.

What do you like most about working at Burwood Council?

My favourite thing is working with other people. The staff at Burwood Council are always polite and patient and I enjoy talking with them. I appreciate being a part of the IT team as they’re always willing to help and teach me something new.
