New Burwood cycle path opens

The first of three new cycle paths in Burwood has opened just in time for spring.
Council received almost $800,000 from the State Government’s Parramatta Road Urban Amenity Improvement Program (PRUIAP) to build the mixed on-road and off-road cycle paths that will link existing recreational areas within Burwood Council and the City of Canada Bay.
Burwood Mayor Cr John Faker said the arrival of warmer weather meant the new cycle path, from Parramatta Road to Burwood Park via Neich Parade, gave residents another opportunity to get out and about.
"These new cycle routes will provide more opportunities for the community to keep fit through walking and cycling as well as a green transport option," he said.
"With the new West Connex open, there is less traffic on Parramatta Road, so we want to improve the connections between our great parks.
"These cycle paths will not only do that, they'll allow more people to leave the car at home and stay off public transport as they travel to work and study.”
The cycle routes are: Luke Avenue to Burwood Road via Arthur Street and Meryla Street; Parramatta Road to Burwood Park via Neich Parade; and Short Street to Wangal Park via Acton Street and Monash Parade.
Work on the other two paths will start in September.
