Barbara Holborow Park

This park is a great little hideaway with a quiet and relaxing feel. This Park has been dedicated to Ms Barbara Holborow OAM in memory of her ground breaking achievements in establishing legal rights for children and for her ongoing work in judicial reforms.

Ms Holborow, a resident of Croydon Park, became a solicitor at the age of 39 and played a pivotal role in establishing free legal aid for children in 1973. These efforts were recognised in 1982 when Ms Holborow was appointed to the bench as the Children’s Court Magistrate where she served until 1994. It was this passion and commitment to legal advocacy for children which earned her the reputation as the ‘children’s champion’. Ms Holborow was duly recognised for her outstanding work receiving the Order of Australia Medal in 2002 and NSW Senior Australian of the Year in 2012. Ms Holborow never wavered from her dedication and support for children’s rights up until her passing in 2012; authoring three books, serving as a patron to many charities and fostering children in her care. This reserve will preserve her legacy and serve as a permanent memory for Ms Holborow’s achievements.

Barbara Holborow Park is located at the southern end of Stanley Street Croydon Park near the corner of Georges River Road.

The Park is situated between Stanley Street and Rawson Street Croydon Park.
