Community Grants

Council supports and facilitates community groups, services and organisations to deliver programs that provide a community benefit to the residents of Burwood local government area.

This support includes the availability of grant funding to help deliver those programs.  

All community groups and organisations who receive funding under Council’s Community Grants Program are required to complete an Acquittal and Evaluation Form at the conclusion of the project.

Council’s Community Grants Program makes funding available for programs, projects and events that address the identified social, cultural, recreational and environmental needs of the community and provide benefits to the residents of Burwood local government area (LGA).

The applicant organisation must be located in Burwood LGA and/or deliver services/projects where the primary beneficiaries or participants are residents of Burwood LGA.

Applications for grants of up to $5,000 each can be made for initiatives that meet a minimum of one of the strategic objectives and priorities outlined in Council’s Community Strategic Plan - Burwood 2036 and other related strategies and plans. Applicants are encouraged to attend one of Council’s Information and Grant Writing sessions to assist them with the online process and better understand the information and terminology required to complete the application form.

Information session: Understanding and Applying for Burwood Council's Community Grants

This seminar is ideal for those who are new to Council's application process.

The session will provide:

  • An overview of Council's Community Grants Program, eligibility and funding priorities and how applications will be assessed
  • A demonstration of how to use the online application system and how to set up a SmartyFile for your organisation
  • An opportunity to meet Council staff and other community organisations.
  • An opportunity to talk through your project idea or ask questions.

Grant Writing Workshop

This hands-on workshop will assist community organisation to develop and write their grant applications for the 2024/2025 Burwood Community Grants Program.

The workshops will focus on specific questions in the application form including project description, budget, project outcomes and funding priorities.

This 3 hour workshop will provide participants with:

A step-by-step guide to preparing your grant application, including:

  • Understanding the funder and what they want from you
  • Defining your project aim, target group and activities
  • Aligning the project with the funder outcomes
  • Defining the project’s benefit for the community and outcomes
  • Finding evidence to support your project
  • Understanding grant eligibility criteria and guidelines
  • Preparing the budget
  • Evaluation of the project and the acquittal

A chance to ask questions and get feedback from the facilitator and Council staff Suitable for community groups and non-profits wanting to improve their grant writing skills.

Priority will be given to volunteer-run organisations operating in the Burwood LGA. There is a small charge of $5 to secure your place.

Clubs NSW makes funding available for application by community organisations and groups for programs and services that support the needs of Burwood residents through the ClubGRANTS program.

Council does not provide this funding but supports and resources the Burwood ClubGRANTS Committee through the application and assessment process.
