Current Install: Happy Nest by Studio Artes x Jeff McCann
Installed December 2024 - Current
Created collaboratively by 21 artists from Studio ARTES & Jeff McCann. Happy Nest represents Studio ARTES and its members. We wanted to approach this artwork like a bird's nest. Seeing it as a home or safe space for people to visit and spend time in.
The bright and bold colours allow the artwork to stand out and draw the community closer. As you move through the space, you will see words of affirmation, kindness and love inspired by Studio ARTES Member Andrew Tabakovic’s poetry practice. Andrew hopes that the words of affirmation will make you feel “happy, loved and warm.”
The final element are the small critters and human characters featured on the inside of the poles. Taking inspiration from Studio ARTES Member Bridget Kelly practice, these critters were created through visits to Burwood Park. Bridget likes the idea you will feel “nice, kind and friendly” when you discover these as they move through the space.
This artwork was commissioned by Council to celebrate 2024 International Day of Person's with Disabilities.
