Project Overview

Burwood Council is seeking to commission a new artwork design for the Burwood’s Banner Program. For the commission, Council is seeking to work with both an Aboriginal artist as well as a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) artist to co-design and create the artwork. Council’s engagement with the local community has consistently highlighted that Burwood’s culturally diverse communities have a strong desire to further connect with and understand First Nations cultures. In seeking to further this dialogue, Council wishes to engage with both First Nations and CALD identifying artist/s for this project.

Council is open to commissioning a solo artist who identifies with both communities or artists can apply together or separately for the project and Council will pair two artist together to meet project cultural requirements.

The design will be licenced for a period of three years in the Burwood Banner Program. The successful artist/s will be required to work with Dharawal Elder Auntie Deborah Lennis through an initial workshop meeting and ongoing feedback throughout the design development process.
