Special Sesquicentenary Council Meeting

Mayor John Faker and the Minister for Local Government Ron Hoenig shaking hands with 150 Year birthday cake on a table

The Special Sesquicentenary Council Meeting held on Wednesday 24 July 2024, commemorated the 150th anniversary of Burwood Council’s inaugural meeting held on 24 July 1874. To honour this historic occasion, Burwood Library and Community Hub transformed into a vibrant ceremonial space, adding a touch of grandeur and celebration to our usual Council Meeting.

The evening featured celebratory music, the launch of the Burwood Pictorial History book commissioned by Council, the unveiling of new Mayoral Portraits, and a photographic exhibition showcasing the Grand Homes of Burwood

Members of the Burwood community, including many former Mayors and Councillors, gathered together to commemorate our past, celebrate our present and embrace the great opportunities that await us in the future.

Mayor of Burwood, Cr John Faker presented his historic Mayoral Minute – ‘Commemorating 150 Years of Burwood’ on the evening.
