Green Waste

Each calendar year residents living in residential properties are offered:

  • 1 x free bookable Green Waste Clean-up
  • 2 x free Green Waste drop-off days

Burwood Council provides one free Green Waste Clean-up service to all Burwood Council residents per calendar year. The booked clean-up service is only available to residential properties only, business rateable properties will NOT be accepted.

The maximum volume is 1.5 cubic metres

Burwood Council reserves the right to reject any clean-up items deemed unsuitable. Items unsuitable for collection will be left behind and a non-collection notice will be left in your mailbox.

 

To help your Green Waste clean-up collection run smoothly and allow our drivers to remove your items safely, please ensure the following:

• Submit a booking request, our Customer Service team will confirm the booking date via email - do not place any items out until the date confirmed by Council

• The booked clean-up service is only available to residential properties only, business rateable properties will NOT be accepted

• Put items on the kerb/council verge on the day before the assigned collection day, waste left on the street outside of your collection times (or on public land at any time) is deemed illegal dumping and may lead to a heavy fine 

• Do not exceed the maximum volume of 1.5 cubic metres

• Grass clippings and/or leaves must be put into bags 

• Branches must be bundled

• Stack items neatly and safely, do not obstruct the road or footpath

Items collected in Green Waste Clean-up:

  • Leaves, grass clippings, and tree loppings up to 15cm in diameter and 1.5m in length
  • All loose materials must be placed in sturdy containers or bagged
  • Tree branches and prunings must be tied in bundles

Items NOT collected in green waste clean up:

  • Untied sticks and branches
  • Loose prunings
  • Tree stumps and tree loppings exceeding 15cm in diameter and 1.5m in length
  • Building materials, such as timber slats or fencing
  • Food waste, including vegetables and fruit
  • Soils and stones

2026 Green Waste drop-off days

Dates: Saturday April 11th 2026

           Saturday October 17th 2026

Time: 8am - 12noon

Drop-off location: Council Operations Centre, 8 Kingsbury Street, Croydon Park

Conditions of entry:

* Residents are required to offload green waste, please bring along rakes/shovels and gloves

* Limited to household quantities

* Proof of residence is required (Driver Licence or rates notice)

* All loads will be inspected, Council has the right to turn away unacceptable items

Do you have excess plastic pots and labels?

Did you know they can be recycled?

Bunnings, Mitre 10 and Flower Power collect used plastic plant pots and other plant packaging (such as stakes and labels) at selected stores.

They accept plastic plant packaging made from polypropylene plastic 5 (otherwise known as PP5). This includes all sizes of plant pots, labels and stakes. Look for the plastic identification code on your pot, if it has a number ‘5’ then you can recycle it.
